In almost thirty years of living in Rome, I admit that I haven’t started exploring its region soon enough. Not because I didn’t want to but because the information wasn’t easily available and public transport to reach most of the places of interest is infrequent, to say the least.
To say it all, when I moved to Rome, the internet wasn’t really a thing; it was mainly something we were studying in university and there wasn’t much content online. Plus, I didn’t have a car and venturing out of the most central neighbourhoods didn’t look too different than traveling abroad to me.
But finally, when I was more confident and owned a car, I finally started discovering the Lazio region and let me tell you, it’s awe-inspiring.
This is why I decided to design a tour that no one else dared to design.

And I totally hear the other travel advisors and tour companies: crafting a full vacation package in the Lazio region is exciting but not easy.
See, I’m aware you can design an itinerary and create a travel plan without visiting a place but this is not how I work.
I have explored and loved every one and each place I have included in my Lazio tour.
But I would be lying if I told you that crafting this itinerary in the Lazio region was easy.
Let me explain…

Probably the most straightforward part was finding experienced, well-prepared and knowledgeable tour guides, driver and tour leader. They are all locals, they have great knowledge of the region and add huge value to the trip.
But aspects like accommodation, experiential activities, and eating out did offer some challenges. This, for a number of reasons:
- I wouldn’t settle for less than great restaurants. All the places I have chosen for the meals included in the trip (almost all!) are top-notch, truly authentic, and reasonably priced. All this to also match the date and the time we will be in those places with their opening hours!
- I didn’t rush the choice of the accommodation. It was mandatory for me that the property was fully equipped, breakfast was included and the rooms were comfortable and ensured perfect rest.
- I took my time to find the perfect activities and experiences. When I designed this tour, one of the first things I thought was that I didn’t want it to be just a week of just staring at monuments like in a school trip. This tour is a diverse experience that combines different activities. Of course sightseeing is an important aspect and the landmarks and palaces you will visit are wonderful, but that’s not all. Among the other experiences, you will join a cooking class in a women-run farm instead of a soulless room, and you will create your first Viterbo-style ceramics plate with a local artist.
This tour around a lesser-touristy region is perfect for history buffs, art lovers, nature enthusiasts, and photographers who will love capturing the monsters of Bomarzo’s sacred wood!

Without leaving aside Rome’s glory and splendour, we will explore its region, the history and the architecture that contributed to creating its aura and making it the Eternal City we love today.
